MAD AS A WET HEN FASTER THAN GREASED LIGHTNING
by A.Sailor

When it comes to cliches you just don't give much thought,
To just where the core is and how much did it rot.
You just throw them out there and hope that they find,
A way to draw pictures with words in my mind.

"As dead as a doornail?" You've heard that one said.
If it's never alive well then how's it get dead?
"As blind as a bat", now just who really cares?
You never see bats trip and fall down the stairs.

"As fit as a fiddle"? That one makes me smile.
Can a fiddle beat ten minutes flat in the mile?
You've heard people say that, "It's hotter than Hell".
I'm not sure that I'd trust anyone who could tell.

There aren't many things that are "high as a kite."
Drugs can't take you up there, I concede that love might.
"As flat as a pancake" can happen of course.
But no one's so starved as to eat a whole horse.

I've never known someone "as dumb as an Ox",
And certainly no one "as smart as a Fox".
You "ran like the devil"? Okay, if you say so.
But if you were a racehorse, I'd bet not one peso.

As I sit on the couch contemplating Mom Cleaver,
I wonder just how much to do has the Beaver?
He's not nearly as busy as people all say.
He does nothing but argue with Wally all day!

"As deep as the sea", well you know that one's lame.
It implies that the depth everywhere is the same.
Yes, lightning is fast but I really must wonder.
It doesn't get here that much quicker than thunder.

Well, I've heard enough. Are you all in a daze?
You're ruining the language. Quit using cliches!
If you don't cut it out, I will think it's a sin.
And I'll be as mad as that famous "wet hen".
