.... A. Sailor

Oh child who are you? I'm not sure I know 
who it is you've become, where it is that you go. 
You seem to sail such a fragile vessel, 
as with your past and your future you wrestle. 

You set your own course, you hang your own sail. 
When your boat fills with water, you use your own bail.
How then can I help you, and still let you be? 
I know I can't hold you, I must set you free. 

You have bridges to cross, and lessons to learn. 
There are pains to endure, and scars you must earn. 
So, be who you are, just do what you feel, 
and know that I love you, and I always will. 

You know that I'll be here, and I'll be a friend. 
Til you've flown in the heavens, and run with the wind. 
When you've sailed all your seas, and you've soared up above, 
I hope you'll remember your father's love.
